WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCWSports.com will look at the members of the UNCW Department of Athletics staff with a weekly feature called "Seahawk Staff Spotlight." Each Tuesday, the website will profile a different member of the staff.
This week's installment profiles
Garrett Knudson, who has served for the last five years as an Academic Coordinator and Director of Student-Athlete Development for UNCW Athletics.
What do you remember about your first day working at UNCW?
I remember that our office was in an old racquetball court. It's amazing to see the growth of Student-Athlete Support Services not only in physical space but in the services we offer to student-athletes to help them succeed in the classroom and in life.
What is one of your favorite memories of working at UNCW?
Seeing the UNCW Student-Athlete Leadership Society come to fruition. After about two years of planning, it is now live and we have since had our first graduating cohort.
What does working at UNCW mean to you?
It has been a great opportunity so far. Working with student-athletes as they pursue their future endeavors is a special moment to be a part of.
If you were an athlete, what jersey number would you want to wear and why?
#23 – We didn't have numbers in track and field, but lots of great athletes wore #23, so I figured I should as well.
Did you play sports in college? If so, what sport and where did you play?
I competed in the shot put, hammer throw and discus throw events for the track and field team at Radford University.
