WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCWSports.com will look at the members of the UNCW Department of Athletics staff with a weekly feature called "Seahawk Staff Spotlight." Each Tuesday, the website will profile a different member of the staff.

This week's edition showcases Head Volleyball Coach Dottie Hampton, who is in her first year at UNCW after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Coastal Carolina.

What do you remember about your first day working at UNCW? 
I was hired during the COVID-19 pandemic. The interview experience was very unusual and interesting. Having to meet the staff and co-workers over Zoom was different.  

What is one of your favorite memories of working at UNCW?
Meeting the team for the first time via Zoom.

What does working at UNCW mean to you?
It means a fresh start and a new beginning to something great.  

If you were an athlete, what jersey number would you want to wear and why?
#10 – It was my college volleyball number.

Did you play sports in college? If so, what sport and where did you play?
I was a two-sport athlete in college – basketball and volleyball. I actually received a basketball scholarship and didn't want to play volleyball due to loyalty to my basketball coach. She took a new job the summer between my freshman and sophomore years and the volleyball coach called me and asked if I would play volleyball as well. I played both sports at IPFW (it was a Division II school then and you were able to play two sports) and ended up playing professional volleyball after college.
