Shumate Joining Women's Tennis Team

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Charlotte-area tennis standout Anna Parker Shumate will be joining the UNCW women's tennis team for the 2020-21 season.
 
Shumate, the daughter of Mark and Carla Shumate, attends the K12 International Academy. She won the Bronze Ball at the 2016 USTA 14s National Doubles Championship. She was a Doubles Finalist at the 2018 Independence Bowl Junior Classic and Winner of the Cardinal Draw at the ITA Summer Circuit -  Elon University.
 
She also won the 2018 USTA National Doubles Championship - North West Draw and was also a Doubles Finalist at the NC State Tar Heel Qualifier. Anna was the recipient of the Sportsmanship  Award at the 2018 USTA National Doubles Championship

"We're very excited to have Anna Parker join our team in the fall," said Hans Olsen, UNCW's head women's tennis coach. "She's a great fit for our program, both as a person and student-athlete. She is very talented on the court and has a strong work ethic. We're looking forward to all the positive qualities that she will bring to our team.".
 
"I'm very exciting about the opportunity to play tennis at UNCW," she said. "I look forward to joining the team and working with Coach Olsen and Coach (John) Ware."
