Thao My Nguyen carded a one-over-par 73 as UNCW opened the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Golf Championship in first place following the first round at The Reserve Club at St. James Plantation on Friday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who authored a 309 team score, hold a five-stroke lead over defending CAA champion Charleston while Delaware follows in third place.
Nguyen, who is tied for first with Towson's Jordan Cornelius and Charleston's Victoria Huskey, posted two birdies during the opening round, which featured windy weather conditions.
Freshman
Phu Khine is tied for fifth place in the 40-player field after shooting a four-over-par 76 in the first round, including a pair of birdies. Freshman
Madison Isaacson holds a share of eighth place at six-over-par.
