Seahawks Heading To Summer Assignments

WILMINGTON, N.C. – With the season complete, Seahawks have set off to their summer destinations, which include the Cape Cod League, New England Collegiate Baseball League, the Valley League and the Coastal Plains League.

The Cape Cod League, many consider the best of the summer circuit, will feature Greg Jones (Chatham), Henry Ryan (Cotuit) and Blake Deatherage (Yarmouth-Dennis). Jones has gotten off to a quick start with a pair of home runs in the first his first seven games with the club.

Freshman Brody Lawson is pitching for the Upper Valley Nighthawks and tossed five innings of one-run ball in his first start of the season. Upper Valley was the same team Ryan Jeffers played for last season and has been a common landing area for the Seahawks.

The Valley League, based in the mountains of Virginia, is the home of the Harrisonburg Turks. Playing for the Turks are Kevin Mintz and Brycen Braswell. Mintz red-shirted in 2018 while Braswell missed a majority of the season with an injury. Noah Bridges is patrolling the outfield for the Covington Lumberjacks while LP Oxendine is with the Winchester Royals.

Seven Seahawks are playing in the Coastal Plain League, which features the hometown Wilmington Sharks among its 16 teams. Playing for the Sharks are Nick Bruno, Zach Bridges, Doug Angeli and Noah Liles. Breydan Gorham, who played in Wilmington last summer, has moved to the Morehead City Marlins while Andrew Tilghman is pitching for the Lexington Blowfish. Luke Gesell is now a member of the High Point-Thomasville Hi-Toms after pitching for Wilmington last summer.

At the professional level, recently drafted and signed Seahawks are reporting to their minor league assignments.

Austin Warren, a sixth-round selection of the Los Angeles Angels, is on the staff for the Orem Owlz of the Pioneer League.

Jeffers will begin his professional career with the Elizabethton Twins of the Appalachian League.

Mason Berne has been assigned to play with the Atlanta Braves' team in the Gulf Coast League while Alex Royalty, Clark Cota and David Sheaffer are playing with the Cleveland, Oakland and Seattle entries in the Arizona League, respectively.
