WALLACE, North Carolina – Campbell shot a pair of identical two-under-par rounds to surge to an eight-shot lead after 36 holes at the River Landing Classic at the River Landing Golf Club on Monday afternoon.

The Camels, who are participating in the tournament for the first time since 2008, overcame a three-stroke deficit to Memphis following the opening round to take the lead over the Tigers. Memphis, which set a tournament record by carding a 283 team score in the first round, shot 9-over-par in the second round to fall into second place.
Senior Ayelen Irizar of Campbell leads the 14-team field individually after carding a 3-under-par 141 in the opening day of the tournament, including an impressive 5-under-par mark in the first round.
Memphis junior Madison Thomas enters the final round just one shot off the lead after a pair of 1-under-par efforts on Monday.
UNCW finished the opening day in sixth place after closing out play with a 594 team score, including a 292 (+4) showing in the second round. Sophomore
Thao My Nguyen paced the Seahawks in the first 36 holes and holds a share of 10th place at 2-over-par (74-72=146).
