Kayla Thompson fashioned a one-under-par 71 to lead UNCW during the opening round of the UCF Challenge at Eagle Creek Golf Club on Sunday afternoon.

Second Round Pairings
The Seahawks stand in 15th place after posting a 311 team score in the first round. Iowa State and East Carolina are tied for first place after authoring 293 team scores.
Thompson, who holds a share of fourth place entering the second round, finished the opening 18 holes with four birdies, including back-to-back birdies on the 15th and 16th holes.
Sophomore
Thao My Nguyen is tied for 62nd place after carding a six-over-par 78 while junior
Ellinoora Moisio follows in a tie for 76th place with an eight-over-par 80.
Senior
Lyberty Anderson finished the first round at 10-over-par for a tie for 76th place while freshman
Rachael Mast shot an 83 to round out the Seahawks' contingent.
Coach Cindy Ho Says: "It was a challenging opening round. The windy conditions made scoring difficult and tested our patience and decision making. We played well except for a few big holes in the middle of the round. Tomorrow is a day for us to bounce back and get back in the tournament. I was really proud of Kayla and how she was able to handle the wind, make good decisions, execute her shots and stay patient."
