Eagles Trim Seahawks In Women's Tennis

ROCK HILL, South Carolina – Senior Xandra Fougner and sophomore Celeste Matute picked up singles victories, but Winthrop claimed the doubles point and added four singles wins to post a 5-2 victory over UNCW in women's tennis on Saturday at the Rock Hill Tennis Center.
 
Winthrop evened its record at 2-2 this season. The Seahawks are now 0-5 this spring and conclude their weekend road trip at Davidson on Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
The Eagles registered wins at the top two doubles positions and tacked on victories at No. 1, No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 singles for the non-conference verdict.
 
Matute improved to 2-1 this spring after defeating Winthrop's Megan Kauffman, 6-3, 7-6 (5), at No. 3 singles. Fougner won for the first time this spring with a 7-5, 6-4, decision against Tayla Van Eck.
