Bonifay Named Farm Director By Phillies


PHILADLEPHIA, Pa. – Former UNCW baseball standout Josh Bonifay has been hired by the Philadelphia Phillies to be their Director of Minor League Operations the club announced on Wednesday.

Bonifay spent seven of the last eight seasons in the Houston Astro organization, serving in a number of capacities from minor league manager to hitting coach. He was the Texas Rangers' Major League field coordinator in 2017, but returned to Houston for 2018 season.

Bonifay was a two-year starter for the Seahawks from 1997-99 and hit .321 with 17 home runs and 62 runs batted in. The Pittsburgh Pirates selected him in the 24th round of the Major League Baseball Draft that summer. Bonifay played eight seasons in the minor leagues in the Pittsburgh and Houston organizations before retiring. He began his coaching career in 2008 with Hickory of the South Atlantic League.
