Baseball Preview: Coastal Carolina

 
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW returns to non-conference play Tuesday evening when it visits Coastal Carolina for a 6 p.m. start at Springs Brooks Stadium.

Both teams are coming off conference sweeps as the Seahawks (24-22) moved into the conference lead after topping previous conference frontrunner Northeastern. Coastal Carolina (30-16-1), meanwhile, swept UL Monroe on the road to move to within a half game of first place in the Sunbelt's East Division.

Red-shirt sophomore Levi Gesell (0-0) will make his first start this season for the Seahawks. He will be the third Gesell to pitch for UNCW in the past two seasons, joining older brother Jared and younger brother, Luke.

The Seahawks will see a familiar face on the mound when Coastal Carolina's Anthony Veneziano (2-2) will make his third start against them this season.

A pair of Seahawks earned CAA weekly honors as Casey Golden and Zarion Sharpe were named Player and Rookie of the Week on Monday. It was the second time each earned the honor this season. Golden hit.467 with three doubles and three home runs. Sharpe, meanwhile, won his fifth straight start by limiting Northeastern to two runs on three hits over 8.1 innings.

UNCW continues its nine-game road swing to close out the regular season tomorrow night with a 6 p.m. start at NC State.
