WILMINGTON, North Carolina – With the non-conference schedule all settled, the UNCW men's basketball team gets down to business on Saturday when the two-time defending Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball champions open defense of their title against Delaware's Blue Hens.

The Seahawks, who went 29-6 overall last season and 15-3 during the CAA regular season, play their first two conference games at Trask Coliseum, where they went 8-1 in league games one year ago.

Saturday's 7 p.m. tip-off is one of five matchups on the opening day of CAA action. The Seahawks then wrap up a three-game homestand on Tuesday when Drexel pays its annual visit to the Port City on "Military Appreciation Night" at Trask Coliseum.

Following the CAA-opening clashes vs. the Blue Hens and Dragons, the Seahawks embark on a three-game road swing to Towson, Delaware and Elon. UNCW plays five of its nine league games in the opening month of the season on its home floor.

"We've played a good non-conference slate and we're looking forward to getting conference play started," said UNCW's C.B. McGrath, who coaches in his first CAA game on Saturday.  We've seen some very good opponents and realize what it's going to take to win those types of games.

"No matter what conference you're in, the conference season is another animal. The intensity picks up. The conference games are another level and our freshmen are going to figure that out quickly, but our returning players know it."

The Seahawks snapped an eight-game skid by steamrolling NCAA Division III Greensboro, 101-60, on Saturday. Junior forward Devontae Cacok notched his CAA-leading ninth double-double with 19 points and 15 boards to anchor six players in double figures for the first time this season.

UNCW bolted over the century mark for the second time in 2017-18 and shot 52.2 percent from the floor – their second best shooting night of the campaign. Defensively, the Seahawks stifled the smaller Pride, limiting Greensboro to 29.3 percent from the field.

Delaware, meanwhile, is coming off a come-from-behind 97-96 overtime verdict over the Ivy League's Cornell early Thursday. The Blue Hens trailed at halftime, 47-36, before knotting the score at the end of regulation and outscoring the Big Red, 16-15, in the extra session.

Freshman guard Ryan Allen poured in a career-high 24 points and played all 45 minutes in the win over Cornell. Sophomore guard Ryan Daly, the CAA's Rookie-of-the-Year last season and UD's leading scorer at 16.9 ppg, poured in 19 points and grabbed seven rebounds for the Blue Hens, who shot 64.0 percent during their second-half comeback.

The Seahawks and Blue Hens are meeting for the 34th time. UNCW owns a 22-11 advantage in the series and has reeled off five straight wins over UD, including a 91-82 decision in the quarterfinals of the 2017 CAA Tournament in Charleston.

UNCW has won 11 of 14 games between the two clubs at Trask Coliseum. Delaware's last win in Wilmington came on Feb 26, 2014 when the Blue Hens handed the Seahawks a 70-57 setback.

Live Seahawk Digital Network (SDN) coverage of the UNCW-Delaware contest begins at 6:45 p.m. with Mike Vaccaro, the "Voice of the Seahawks," and Marty Feurer calling the action.
