ROCK HILL, South Carolina – Senior outfielder
Darian Roberts collected three hits, including her first home run of the season, as UNCW opened its road schedule by splitting a doubleheader against Winthrop at Terry Field on Wednesday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who improved to 13-7 on the season, overcame a 3-2 loss in the first game to earn a 5-4 victory over the Eagles in eight innings in the nightcap. Meanwhile, Winthrop upped its record to 9-12. Â
Roberts, who hit 3-for-7 in the doubleheader, posted a hit in the first game before going 2-for-4 in the nightcap. She also drove in a pair of runs in the second game with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning.

Claudia Spinelli each added two hits for the Seahawks, who tallied 14 hits in the doubleheader.

Peyton Jordan upped her record to 5-1 in the circle with a complete game victory in the nightcap. She scattered five hits while recording five strikeouts.
How It Happened – Game 1: The Eagles scored a run in the first inning and added two more runs in the third inning to build a 3-0 advantage they did not relinquish. UNCW narrowed the deficit to 3-2 in the fourth inning on a two-run single by Spinelli, but was unable to get any closer
How It Happened – Game 2: After Winthrop scored a run in the bottom of the fifth inning to force extra innings, the Seahawks took advantage of an error with two outs in the eighth inning to score twice for a 5-3 lead. Winthrop trimmed the margin to 5-4 in the bottom of the inning, but Jordan got a strikeout to close out the game.
