Seahawks Fall Against Presbyterian and UNCG

Hampton Inn and Suites Seahawk Softball Invitational Central
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCG and Presbyterian combined to limit UNCW to just two runs on seven hits as the Seahawks dropped a pair of games to open the Hampton Inn and Suites Seahawk Softball Invitational at Boseman Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Seahawks, who dropped to 13-9 on the season, suffered a 4-0 setback against Presbyterian in the tournament opener before falling by a 7-2 count against UNCG. In the final game of the tripleheader, Presbyterian blanked UNCG by a 3-0 margin.

Sophomore infielder Kelsey Bryan led the Seahawks with two hits and a run scored while freshman infielder Anna Hessenthaler added a two-run single against UNCG.
 How It Happened – Presbyterian: The Blue Hose used a pair of home runs by freshman infielder Megan Anderson to claim a 4-0 victory. Anderson led off the second inning with her fifth home run of the year before blasting a solo shot in the seventh inning. Senior pitcher Sydney Seigler earned the victory in the circle after matching a career high with nine strikeouts while sophomore Sarah Davis took the loss for the Seahawks.

How It Happened – UNCG: The Spartans scored the game's first six runs, including five in the second inning, before the Seahawks trimmed the deficit to 6-2 with Hessenthaler's two-run single in the fifth inning. But, the Spartans added a run in the sixth inning to secure the victory. Sophomore Alicia Bazonski held UNCW to just two runs on five hits over six innings to earn the victory.  

Inside the Box Scores: UNCW was 2-for-18 with runners on base and 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position … The Seahawks were 3-for-4 in stolen base attempts in the doubleheader … UNCW was 4-for-11 in advancement opportunities against UNCG.  

#SeahawkStats: UNCW is now 33-for-39 in stolen base attempts this season … UNCW is now 12-8 at home this year … The Seahawks were shut out for just the second time this year in the loss against Presbyterian (Feb. 12 vs. Saint Francis) … Freshman Hannah Adamczyk and junior Nella Chamblee both had their four-game hitting streaks snapped in the loss against Presbyterian.

Up Next for the Seahawks: UNCW completes play at the Hampton Inn and Suites Seahawk Softball Invitational on Sunday by facing Presbyterian at noon.
