TOWSON, Maryland – After setting a conference record for regular season out-of-league victories, the UNCW men's basketball team now sets its sights on the real prize - another Colonial Athletic Association crown to bookend last year's storybook run.

The Seahawks, 11-2, take on Towson, 8-5, early Saturday in a New Year's Eve showdown of the CAA's top two teams according to a preseason poll. Tip-off is set for Noon at SECU Arena near Baltimore.

UNCW is looking to start a new winning streak after its eight-game string was snapped on Wednesday in an 87-73 loss at Clemson. The Tigers shot 55.7 percent from the floor and used a 20-5 run in the first half to break away from the Seahawks.

Third-year Head Coach Kevin Keatts has rebuilt the Seahawks, who have won five CAA titles, into a conference stalwart in just three short seasons. Since a loss to the Tigers in last year's third conference game, UNCW has won 16 of its last 18 tests against CAA foes. UNCW owns a CAA-leading .661 winning percentage over the last two years behind a 43-22 record in conference games.

The Seahawks lead the 34-game series with the Tigers by a 20-14 margin and own a 17-10 record against Towson since the Baltimore-area club joined the CAA in 2001-02.  Towson, however, has won two of three matchups at sparkling SECU Arena.

UNCW and TU split a pair of games one year ago. Last January, the Tigers handed the Seahawks a 76-60 setback at SECU Arena before UNCW evened the score with a 74-68 decision at Trask Coliseum on Feb. 27, 2016.

The Seahawks bring a balanced attack into the New Year's Eve party. Sophomore guard C.J. Bryce, a rising star in the loop, tops the club with 18.1 points per game, followed by senior guard Chris Flemmings (16.8), senior guard Denzel Ingram (13.5) and sophomore forward Devontae Cacok (13.2).

UNCW leads the CAA in seven statistical categories: scoring offense (87.7), scoring margin (+12.2), field goal percentage (.495), steals (7.9), turnover margin (5.31), assist/turnover ratio (1.4) and average home attendance (4,338).

Towson, meanwhile, returns to the hardwood following an extended layoff. The Tigers last played on Dec. 22 in Las Vegas, where they trimmed Iona, 76-69, in the 2016 South Point Holiday Hoops Classic.

The Tigers also feature four players averaging in double digits. Junior guard Mike Morsell (17.6), senior forward William Adala Moto (12.8), junior guard DeShawn Morman (10.9) and senior forward John Davis (10.8) give the Black & Gold plenty of offensive firepower.

Saturday marks the sixth time the Seahawks have played on New Year's Eve, but the first appearance on the final day of the year for the Tigers. UNCW owns a 2-3 record in Dec. 31 games and topped Drexel, 75-63, last year on the celebratory date.
