22473With the season just around the corner, we'll take a look at the UNCW baseball program and the players who make up the roster.

Cory Gantz returns to the pitching staff following a strong freshman season, finishing with a 3-1 record in 13 appearances, including a pair of starts.

The Seahawks open the 2015 season with Richmond on Feb. 13, as part of the Buffalo Wild Wings Battle at the Beach Classic.

UNCWSPORTS.COM: Why did you choose to attend UNCW?
CG: I have always had a dream of playing and attending a school down south.  Then when you throw in the beach, great Wilmington area and awesome baseball program, it was an easy choice.

UNCWSPORTS.COM: v Describe a moment when you felt the most Seahawk pride.
CG: I feel pride every game we play when we have fans come out and cheer us on. Its great to have such an awesome fan base.

UNCWSPORTS.COM:  Take us through your pre-game mental preparation routine.
CG: My pre-game routine is pretty simple, I just focus on what I want to accomplish and always have the goal of winning in my mind.

UNCWSPORTS.COM:  What are some community activities you or your team have done?
CG: The team has helped a lot in the community with activities such as the Miracle League, reading to children at the local elementary school, and helping with Color Me Rad run.

UNCWSPORTS.COM:  What is your intended or declared major and why did you choose that major?
CG: My major is Business Administration with a concentration in finance and I also am minoring in pre-law.  I chose this major and minor because I want to become a sports agent one day.

UNCWSPORTS.COM:  Describe your dream job: 
CG: My dream job is to work as a sports agent. I want to be able to work with professional baseball players and help them manage their lives and make them the big bucks.

UNCWSPORTS.COM: If you could play another sport at UNCW, what would it be and why?
CG: I would play basketball because I have always played basketball since I was little and just like to play the game.

UNCWSPORTS.COM:  Favorite team tradition/activity and why?
CG: One of my favorite team activities is the bonding and good times we share in the locker room after a win.

UNCWSPORTS.COM:  Which teammate will have the most interesting job in 10 years and why?
CG: William Shepley will have the most interesting job because he is a character and likes to scheme so he will find and odd job to do.

UNCWSPORTS.COM:  What animal would best describe you and why?
CG: A dog because they are very relaxed and just go with the flow on most things.

UNCWSPORTS.COM: What is your favorite quote or phrase?
CG: "They measure my height, my weight, they test my speed and my strength but never thought to measure my heart." This quote shows that someone may not have the most talent but they can succeed because they have passion and want to win

UNCWSPORTS.COM:  What is your favorite type of food (i.e. Chinese, Mexican, Italian etc.)?
CG: My favorite type of food is Italian

UNCWSPORTS.COM:  Favorite place you have visited or traveled to and why?
CG: My favorite place was Grand Cayman with my family because it was a relaxing trip with tons of excursions to be able to do.

UNCWSPORTS.COM:  If you could sit down for lunch with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
CG: Jackie Robinson, because he overcame so much in his life and I would just want to hear his story.

UNCWSPORTS.COM:  Most addicting television show? 
CG: Breaking Bad

UNCWSPORTS.COM:  What is number one on your bucket list and why? 
CG: I want to backpack through Europe

UNCWSPORTS.COM:  What is your best non-athletic skill?
CG: I am very good at baking 

UNCWSPORTS.COM:  Favorite person to follow on Twitter?
CG: I do not have a specific favorite person but I favorite anybody who is funny and jokes about other sports

UNCWSPORTS.COM:  What is your biggest pet peeve and why? 
CG: I hate when people drive with their turn signal on or keep their high beams on
 
UNCWSPORTS.COM:  What is something you are afraid of?
CG: Spiders

UNCWSPORTS.COM:  What is an obstacle you had to overcome in your life?
CG: My junior year of high school, my team had a week of playoffs ahead of us and I found out in the beginning of the week that my grandfather had cancer. I had to block out all of that and be able to perform in the games.
