Seahawks Wind Up 12th In Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational

BETSY RAWLS LONGHORN INVITATIONAL FINAL RESULTS

AUSTIN, Texas –
The UNCW women's golf team dropped back to 12th place on the final day of the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational on Tuesday at The University of Texas Golf Club.

The Seahawks shot a 23-over-par 311 in the final round to close with a three-day total of 299-328-311=938 on the rolling Par 72, 6,225-yard layout.

"We wanted to push today and catch a couple teams," said Cindy Ho, UNCW's veteran coach. "We were close and finished a couple shots from Tulsa and UTSA.

"We struggled a lot as a team today with our putting. We had a lot of three-putts and those are shots we can't afford right now if we have expectations of finishing higher. We just gave away too many shots when the conditions were better for scoring."

Freshman Kayla Thompson of Clarkton, N.C., was UNCW's low player in the event wire-to-wire, tying five other players for 19th place with a 72-79-77=228 card. She shot a career-best even par during Sunday's opening round.

Ho said, "Kayla had a great tournament and had her first top-20 finish against a tough field. I was very pleased with how she performed and competed this week. She was able to play well against a tough field."

Juniors Annette Lyche (73-79-79=231) and Meghan Thiess (77-82-72=231) tied for 36th on the 81-player leaderboard. Elizabeth Hall, making her 2014-15 debut,
finished fourth on the team at 77-89-83=249 for 71st place and senior Mallory Warrick tied for 75th with a 77-88-89=254 result.

"I was also really pleased with how Meghan was able to bounce back and finish the tournament well," Ho added.

The Seahawks return home to serve as the host institution for the prestigious Landfall Tradition Oct. 24-26 at the Country Club of Landfall. It will mark the fourth and final tournament of the fall portion of the schedule for Ho's team.

"We know what we have to work on over the next week and a half. We're going to work hard and get ready for the Tradition."
