RICHMOND, Virginia - Senior point guard Chad Tomko was named Second-Team All-CAA to head UNCW's list of honorees at the Colonial Athletic Association's post-season awards banquet Thursday night at the Richmond Marriott.
Tomko was joined on the list of honorees by sophomore center Matt Wilson, who collected CAA All-Academic Second-Team accolades. Tomko moves up from Third-Team All-CAA two years ago and becomes UNCW's 28th All-CAA selection.
Tomko, a 5-10 dynamo from Charlotte, N.C., posted some impressive numbers in his senior season, averaging 17.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 4.3 rebounds per game. He wound up third in the league in scoring, fourth in assists, third in steals, second in three-point field goals made and third in minutes played.
"Chad had an outstanding year and was a huge factor in our success," said Buzz Peterson, UNCW's first-year coach. "He put up some great numbers all year and learned to trust his teammates and that helped everyone around him get better. We're very pleased that he has received All-Conference honors."
Tomko has appeared in 124 games - just one shy of tying Brett Blizzard's career record - and stands third all-time in points scored with 1,683 points. He has led the Seahawks in scoring in 19 games, in rebounding 11 contests and in assists 25 times in 2010-11.
Wilson, meanwhile, excelled in the classroom while appearing in all 30 games and making 12 starts this season. The Raleigh product averaged 4.5 points and 2.7 rebounds in his second season with the club.
Tomko and Wilson will lead the eighth-seeded Seahawks as they open the 2011 CAA Tournament on Friday with a Noon matchup against No. 9 Georgia State at the Richmond Coliseum.
