CONWAY, S.C. ? Senior Chris Courson won two events but it wasn't enough as Coastal Carolina topped UNC Wilmington, 108.5-96.5, in the annual “Battle of the Beaches” meet Sunday at Coastal Carolina Track Complex.
Courson, who finished a strong indoor season last weekend, won both the 400 and 200 meter sprints. In the 400, Courson clocked in a time of 48.34 and later added a winning time of 21.96 in the 200 meters.
The Seahawks won six other events in addition to Courson's wins. Sophomore Aaron Wiggins won the Pole Vault with a career-best height of 16-0 1/2. In the Long Jump, junior Brandyn Mitchell topped the field with jump of 21-11 3/4.
In the distance events, sophomore Monty Caldwell finished first in the Steeplechase with a time of 9:53.38. In the 1500 meters, sophomore Jeff Naro won with a time of 4:05.09.
Junior Devin Dixon won the 800 meters in a time of 1:57.07.
Senior Ernest Asante, meanwhile, tied his career-best time of 14.47 in winning the 110 meter Hurdles.
The Seahawks return to action on Mar. 8, at the Buccaneer Invitational in Charleston, S.C.
