WILMINGTON, N.C. ? Senior center Vladimir Kuljanin of UNC Wilmington has been named the Colonial Athletic Association's Men's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for the second time this season.
The 6-10, 265-pound post player averaged a double-double for the Seahawks in a pair of road games last week against Old Dominion and William & Mary. He scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in UNCW's come-from-behind 68-65 victory over ODU and then added 18 points and 14 boards in a narrow 70-66 loss at W&M.
“It's a well-deserved honor,” said second-year coach Benny Moss of UNCW. “Vlad has been the guy who has solidified the interior for us over the last three weeks. He's had great statistics and I'm pleased that he's being rewarded for his hard work.”
The Toronto product, who shared the honor with Towson's Junior Hairston in the opening week of the season, wound up averaging 19.0 points and 13.0 rebounds over the two games while shooting 70.8 percent from the field on 17-for-24. He has recorded three consecutive double-doubles and has 10 for the season.
Kuljanin and the Seahawks, 14-9 and 7-4, put the wraps on a three-game road swing Wednesday with a 9 p.m. tip at Delaware. The game will be aired on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN).
