Raynor Named UNCW's Top Student-Athlete

RAYNOR WINS UNCW'S THOMAS V. MOSELEY AWARD

WILMINGTON, N.C. -
Senior women's track and field standout Anna Raynor, one of the nation's top javelin throwers, has been named recipient of the Thomas V. Moseley Award as UNC Wilmington's top student-athlete for 2006-07. The Benson, N.C., native was recognized Monday night at the school's annual athletic awards banquet.

The Thomas V. Moseley Award is presented each year to the program's outstanding athlete. It is given in memory of Dr. Thomas V. Moseley, a member of the UNCW faculty and the Seahawk Club Board of Directors for many years. Dr. Moseley was an outstanding member of the university community who gave unselfishly of his time and energy toward the advancement of Seahawk athletics, the Seahawk Club and the University during its formulative years.

The award is presented annually to the UNCW athlete who has distinguished himself or herself in athletic competition during the year. It is based on outstanding athletic performances and accomplishments, and the generation of positive attention and recognition to their respective sport, the University and the Colonial Athletic Association.

Raynor, currently ranked fourth in the nation in the javelin, has racked up numerous regional and national awards over the last four years. An All-American in 2005 and 2006, Raynor has been a National Qualifier in NCAA Outdoor Track, NCAA East Regional Champion, ECAC Champion, All East, CAA Athlete-of-the-Year and CAA Champion in the apparatus.

Raynor was also selected the CAA's Most Valuable Performer for Field Events in 2006, CAA Rookie of the Year in 2004 and has set 10 school records. Majoring in business marketing with a minor in art, Raynor collected Academic All-American honors in 2005 and 2006.

She recently defended her javelin title in the Championship of America division at the Penn Relays, breaking into the Top 10 list all-time in the event at historic Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
