Carter Philly-Bound To See Specialist At Drexel

CARTER HEADED TO PHILLY FOR CONSULTATION

WILMINGTON, N.C. –
Senior men's basketball standout T.J. Carter of UNC Wilmington is traveling to Philadelphia and Hahnemann Hospital on Tuesday, hoping to get a clearer picture on persistent groin pain.

The Mechanicsville, Md., product, a Preseason First-Team All-Colonial Athletic Association, has already undergone two surgeries to repair the nagging problem. He will be seen by internationally-recognized specialist Dr. William C. Meyers, chairman of the Department of Surgery and Senior Associate Dean for Clinical Affairs at the Drexel University College of Medicine.

“Dr. Meyers will take a look at T.J. and then we'll decide from there,” said Benny Moss, UNCW's first-year head coach. “It's a very difficult situation to diagnose. If surgery is required, Dr. Meyers will go ahead and take care of it the next day. If not, we'll discuss T.J.'s options. Ultimately, we want what is best for T.J. and his family.”

The Mechanicsville, Md., product was slowed throughout last year with the injury, but fought through the pain and bounced back down the stretch, averaging 13.6 points and 4.1 rebounds to spearhead UNCW's drive to the 2006 Colonial Athletic Association Championship and the NCAA Tournament.
