Elijah Cuffee joined the UNCW staff as Assistant Director of Sports Performance in June of 2023. He is responsible for training the men’s basketball, beach volleyball, and cross country teams.
Originally from Poca, W.Va., Cuffee played men's basketball at Liberty, where he played all four years and helped the program to a record of 104-32, including a 30-4 season in his junior year. Cuffee finished his career in 2021 as the all-time wins leader for the Flames.
Cuffee earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science and Wellness in 2020. Cuffee then helped with the Liberty Performance staff as a graduate assistant coach and earned his Master of Science degree in Exercise Science and Wellness.
Cuffee holds a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification from the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).
"I'm very excited and extremely grateful for the opportunity to join the UNCW Sports Performance staff," said Cuffee. "I'm eager for the chance to advance UNCW athletics through performance training and whole person development."
Cuffee developed his coaching philosophies under the supervision of Henry Barrera (University of Alabama) and Robb Hornett (Liberty University).
Cuffee and his wife spend their time walking, working out, visiting with friends, and going to the beach.
