WILMINGTON, N.C. –Four different Seahawks found the back of the net as UNCW women's soccer defeated High Point, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at UNCW Soccer Stadium.
"We couldn't ask for much more on the day", said head coach
Chris Neal. "High Point scored a really nice set-piece goal early, but we responded by taking control and scoring four unanswered. We didn't let the setback bother us and took control of the match. There were lots of lessons out there today, and we got better in our preparation for CAA play."
The Panthers (1-5-1) opened the scoring in the sixth minute, but UNCW (4-0-3) quickly responded as Allie Planeaux scored with an assist from Jada Tuffin to even the score. Abbey Pierson then put the Seahawks ahead, 2-1, with an assist from Rachel Fry before halftime.
In the second half,
Caigan Leonard scored her fourth goal of the season off an assist from
Hailey Longwell in the 54
th minute to extend the lead to 3-1.
Kamrey Watkins closed out scoring play for the Seahawks in the 64
th minute with an assist from Leonard.
The Panthers responded with a goal in the 89
th minute, but the UNCW defense was able to hold High Point to only five shots in the entire match.
The Seahawks return to the road to face Charlotte University on Sept. 10, with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m. The match will be aired on ESPN+.
