Seahawks Shut Out Charlotte, 2-0, to Stay Undefeated

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The UNCW women's soccer team remained undefeated in the regular season Thursday with a 2-0 shutout of Charlotte, extending its regular-season unbeaten streak to 13 matches dating back to Sept. 12, 2025. Hailey Longwell and Kamrey Watkins each scored to lead the Seahawks.

"We are very proud of these Seahawks tonight", said head coach Chris Neal. "Not an easy thing to do. They went to classes in the morning, drove 5 hours to Charlotte through 5 o'clock traffic, got off the bus, and beat a team of exceptional quality like UNCC. Charlotte is a very well-coached and dangerous team, and we will enjoy this tonight."

The Seahawks (5-0-3) and 49ers (4-3-0) played a tightly contested first half, with the 49ers holding a close 7-6 advantage in shots. Longwell broke through in the 35th minute, heading home an assist from Watkins to put the Seahawks on the board.

The duo flipped the script in the second half, as Watkins scored in the 59th minute with an assist from Longwell to extend UNCW's lead to 2-0 and cap the scoring.

Strong passing and movement from the Seahawks' midfield and back line helped UNCW control possession and consistently move the ball into the attacking third. The Seahawks' defensive unit held steady pressure to limit Charlotte.

Lili White and Zoë Anderson combined for seven saves to preserve the shutout, with White making three saves in the first half and Anderson adding four in the second. The seven saves marked a season high for the Seahawks.

The Seahawks return to UNCW Soccer Stadium on Sunday, Sept. 13, for their final non-conference match of the season when they host Coastal Carolina for Senior and Alumni Night. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m., and the match will be broadcast on FloCollege.
