Volleyball Tripped Up By Gardner-Webb In Five

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Gardner-Webb overcame a 2-1 deficit on Friday to rally past UNCW, 3-2, in college volleyball action at Paul Porter Arena.

The Seahawks fell to 3-3 with the loss and 1-1 in five-set matches this season. The Runnin' Bulldogs, meanwhile, improved to 3-2.

Sam Vanda and Addi Vaughn posted double-doubles for UNCW. Vanda finished with 12 kills and 10 digs while Vaughn recorded 48 assists and 12 digs, both season highs for the freshman setter.

Nadia Wasilewski held team-high honors with 13 kills, and Elaina Murphy added nine.

Gardner-Webb, which earned its first win in the all-time series, was paced by Peyton Slone's match-high 21 kills while Sarina Galyean and Nicole Osbourne chipped in 12 and 10, respectively.

Led by Parker LaFontaine's five aces, the Runnin' Bulldogs finished with 15.

Osbourne added 19 digs to round out a double-double for GW.

The Seahawks conclude their tournament schedule on Saturday in Spartanburg, S.C., at 10 a.m. against West Florida.
