Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Seahawks Hold East Carolina to Scoreless Draw

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The UNCW women's soccer team remained unbeaten Thursday night, playing East Carolina to a scoreless draw at UNCW Soccer Stadium behind a strong defensive performance.

"That was a really great effort from our team tonight," said head coach Chris Neal. "ECU is a team with talented attacking weapons. Earning a shutout is not easy against them. We continue to create the best chances of the game, so we have to be happy with that. All in all, this is a great non-conference test to help prepare us for CAA play."

The Seahawks' (3-0-3) back line of Macy Lutz, Rachel Fry, Ava Chuderewicz and Alyssa Chuderewicz held the Pirates (1-2-4) to just three shots throughout the match, including only one in the first half. UNCW's offense generated 13 shots, with Kamrey Watkins, Allie Planeaux and Hailey Longwell combining for 11 attempts.

UNCW created several late opportunities in the final three minutes, as Ava Vaughan's shot went just high before Caigan Leonard's attempt hit the crossbar with 30 seconds remaining.

Lili White and Zoë Anderson each made one save to preserve the shutout for the Seahawks.

The Seahawks return to action Sunday, Sept. 6, when they host High Point at UNCW Soccer Stadium for the Morgan's Message game. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
