Wasilewski, Keefer Power UNCW Past Norfolk State

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Nadia Wasilewski and Meredith Keefer combined for 29 kills to lead UNCW past Norfolk State in four sets (25-27, 25-16, 25-21, 25-21) on Friday at the UNCW Hampton Inn University Invitational.

The Seahawks, who dropped their second match of the day in five sets to UNC Asheville, fell to 4-5 after splitting their two matches.  Norfolk State dropped to 2-4 with the loss while Asheville pushed its record to 8-2.

Wasilewski and Keefer recorded career-highs with 15 and 14 kills, respectively, as UNCW hit .323 in the match. In the third set, UNCW posted a season-high .630 hitting average with 19 kills in 27 attacks.

UNCW's Gaby Zovko handed out 43 assists and capped a double-double with a team-high 11 digs.

Courtney Graham added nine kills and a .643 hitting average in 14 swings for the Seahawks.

Gabrielle Gilbert headed up Norfolk State with a match-best 16 kills and a team-leading eight digs.

In the Asheville match, Keefer led UNCW with 11 kills, and Zovko, who also finished with seven kills and eight blocks, chalked up another double-double with 38 assists and 15 digs. Graham added seven kills and eight blocks of her own.

Addie Brookbank and Sarah Wadsworth finished with 14 kills apiece for the Bulldogs.

The Seahawks close out the tournament on Saturday against Harvard, 30 minutes after the conclusion of a match between UNCA and NSU, which begins at 11 a.m.
