Lewis, Zovko Open Strong As UNCW Splits

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Lauren Lewis posted a career-high nine kills in a season-opening win over Le Moyne, and Gaby Zovko recorded her fourth career triple-double in a four-set loss to Kennesaw State on Friday at the Hampton Inn and Suites Seahawk Classic.

The Seahawks moved to 1-1 with the split. The season-opening win was the first for the program since a 3-0 win over North Florida in 2019.

Lewis, who transferred into the program this season, passed her previous high of six from a pair of matches during the 2023 season when she was at South Florida.

Zovko, another transfer following a season at Southern Miss, notched 10 kills, 25 assists and 12 digs. Her last triple-double came during the 2024 season.

In the opener, the Seahawks dominated Le Moyne (25-12, 25-17, 25-14) by hitting .364 on the afternoon. Sam Vanda, a sophomore, hit .400 on the strength of eight kills in 15 attacks. UNCW combined to hit .571 in the third set.

In the nightcap, Kennesaw State's Haley Patterson posted 22 kills and hit .405.

UNCW rolled to a 25-15 win in the first set, but the Owls earned wins in the following three sets (25-23, 25-22, 25-23) by a combined seven points.

Nadia Wasilewski matched Zovko for match-high honors with a career-high 10 kills.

The Seahawks wrap up the weekend on Saturday with a 2 p.m. start against the Citadel.
