Seahawks Push Past Old Dominion, 2-1, in Home Opener

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The UNCW women's soccer team improved to 3-0 with a 2-1 victory over Old Dominion in its home opener Thursday at UNCW Soccer Stadium, marking the Seahawks' best start to a season since 2019. Allie Planeaux and Hailey Longwell provided the goals for UNCW.

"Our staff is really proud of a lot of things tonight," said UNCW head coach Chris Neal. "ODU are very athletic, aggressive and talented in all phases of the game. We responded very well to some of our mistakes early on, fought back, stayed true to ourselves, and exhibited a ton of Seahawks spirit tonight."

Old Dominion (1-2-0) struck first in the eighth minute to take an early 1-0 lead. The Seahawks (3-0-0) answered in the 38th minute when Planeaux found the back of the net to even the match at 1-1 heading into halftime, which marks her first goal of the season.

Longwell put UNCW ahead in the 76th minute with an assist from Viktoria Hankova, giving the Seahawks a 2-1 advantage that ended scoring play from both teams.

The goalkeeping duo of Zoë Anderson and Lili White combined for three saves while facing four shots on goal from the Monarchs.

The Seahawks return to the road Sunday, Aug. 23, when they travel to Georgia Southern for a 1 p.m. kickoff. The match will be available to stream on ESPN+.
