Lucas Homers Twice In Loss to North Carolina

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Trevor Lucas homered twice for the Seahawks, but UNCW fell to second-ranked North Carolina, 13-7, at Brooks Field on Tuesday.

The Tar Heels swept the season series from the Seahawks to improve to 41-9-1 while the Seahawks moved to 28-23 with the home loss.

UNC raced out to a 6-1 lead after two innings thanks to a pair of three-run homers by Gavin Gallaher and Owen Hull in the first and second innings, respectively.

Bromley Thornton (3-3) was tagged with the loss for the Seahawks.

For Lucas, both homers were solo shots as the Seahawks belted four round-trippers in the game. Adding homers were Mason Hughes and Cole Nelson

Matthew Matthjis (3-0) stayed perfect on the season by earning the win in relief. Tom Chmielewski notched his first save.

Jake Schaffner scored three runs at the top of the order and finished with two hits for the Tar Heels.

Colin Hynek's sixth homer of the season, a two-run shot, highlighted a three-run ninth for UNC.

The Seahawks host Campbell in the final Coastal Athletic Association series of the season, beginning on Thursday at 6 p.m.
