Softball Wins CAA South Division, Locks in CAA Seed

UNCW clinches No. 2 seed in 2026 CAA Tournament

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW softball team swept two games of a doubleheader to clinch the CAA South Division and a first round bye in next week's Coastal Athletic Association Tournament with 10-8 and 5-3 triumphs against rival Campbell on Friday at Boseman Field.

The Seahawks conclude the 2026 regular season with a 31-17 overall record and an 18-6 conference mark, tying the program best for CAA wins.

UNCW earned the No. 2 seed in the CAA Tournament over the Camels, the No. 3 seed who stand 31-21 and 18-6 in league play, by winning this weekend's series and earning the head-to-head tiebreaker.

Junior Madison Biddle led the way with a 4-for-6 showing over the two contests that included a home run, her third of the season, and a pair of doubles. The former All-CAA First Teamer was one of three Seahawks to drive in multiple runs on Friday, along with junior Averie Daughtry and senior Grace Hennessy, who both plated three runs.

In the circle, sophomore Lynsie Herman (8-3) tossed six scoreless innings over the two games and did not allow a run over nine innings in the series.

All three seniors - Carson Fleming, Hennessy and Nico-Marie Ortiz - were honored throughout the weekend and contributed both at the plate in the field to Friday's doubleheader sweep.

Game 1 | UNCW 10, Campbell 8
A wild first game featured 18 combined runs and 19 total hits with both teams committing a pair of errors and each working seven walks.

The Seahawks raced out to an early 4-0 advantage, with two-RBI hits by Daughtry and Hennessy, before the Camels flipped the advantage to 8-5 with a three-run second and five-run third sandwiched between a Biddle RBI single in the bottom of the second.

After scoring two in the fifth, UNCW sent nine to the plate in a four-run sixth in which they recorded four hits and scored twice on errors, once on a Daughtry single and pinch hitter Taylor Barlow worked a five-pitch walk.

Game 2 | UNCW 5, Campbell 3
Biddle took the first pitch of the bottom of the second deep over the left field wall to erase a 1-0 Campbell lead in what would become the eventual game-deciding inning with a three more runs driven in on walks.

Junior Allison Corbin added an insurance run in the fourth after Camel plated two in the third.

Freshman Camille Hamilton finished her first college regular season with five three-run innings and Herman caught Campbell's Kylie Specht looking with two on in the seventh for the division title.

Camels freshman Katelyn Hubley (18-5) was on the losing end of both games after blanking the Seahawks 2-0 in Thursday's series opener.

Up next: UNCW will turn its attention towards capturing its third CAA Tournament title in the last five years when it opens the CAA Championships at Elon on Thursday, May 7, at 2:30 p.m. against the winner of Wednesday's No. 3 Campbell and No. 6 Elon game.
