Huddleston, Seahawks Edge Cougars in Extras

MOUNT PLEASANT, South Carolina – Junior Makayla Huddleston tossed eight innings of two-run ball as the UNCW softball team edged Charleston 4-3 in 10 innings to claim the Coastal Athletic Association softball series on Saturday afternoon at Patriots Point.

The Seahawks (29-15, 16-4 CAA) earned their sixth conference series victory 2026 in its longest game by innings played of the season. The Cougars fell to 24-26 and 12-8 in the CAA.

Huddleston (4-6) tossed a season-high in innings, one off her career-high of nine, to get the best of the reliever pitching duel against Charleston's Jules Raymond (4-6), who tossed seven innings of two-run ball.

Junior Madison Biddle, who tallied three hits, set up the eventual game-winning run with a lead-off double, her second of the day after an RBI two-bagger in the third, to start the tenth inning. After advancing to third on a groundout, freshman Ava Brookshire's sacrifice fly to left field scored Biddle to break the 3-3 deadlock.

The Seahawks carried a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh before the Cougars forced extras on a Leela Langston single to left field to score Bronwyn Conroy, who reached on a fielder's choice for the first out of the inning.

Langston gave Charleston an early 1-0 lead in the first on a sac-fly to left before senior Grace Hennessy evened the game in the second with an RBI single.

Junior Ava Tsiouplis put the Seahawks ahead again after Hallie Cannon tied the game in the bottom of the third with a sac-fly to center in the sixth before Langston's second RBI set up extras.

The series concludes on Sunday at Noon.
