Seahawks Rally to Clinch CAA Tournament Berth

MOUNT PLEASANT, South Carolina – The UNCW softball team stormed back from a 6-2 deficit with a five-run seventh inning to prevail 7-6 over Charleston on Friday evening at Patriots Point.

The Seahawks improved to 28-15 and stand 15-4 in Coastal Athletic Association after clinching a CAA Tournament berth with a win against the Cougars, who fell to 24-25 and 12-7 in league play.

The game, knotted at 2-2 through six-and-a-half innings, erupted into an offensive frenzy in the final 1.5 innings with nine combined runs and 12 total hits.

UNCW starter Lynsie Herman allowed two runs and pitched into the sixth inning before Charleston chased the sophomore southpaw from the game with a walk and single to start the bottom half of the sixth.

The Cougars scored four runs, two charged each to Lynsie and freshman Camille Hamilton (13-3), on five hits to carry a commanding 6-2 lead into the final inning.

With one out in the seventh, junior Madison Biddle began a series of six straight singles and a four-pitch walk by pinch-hitter Peyton Carver off Mackenzie Mathis (12-6) that tied the game at 6-all. Freshman Emily Whitwell reached on a fielder's choice to score the decisive run.

Charleston brought the game-winning run to the plate, and the tying run to third base, but Hamilton worked out of the jam to earn the Seahawks' fourth win over the Cougars in 2026.

The Seahawks tallied 15 hits, including three each by Ava Brookshire and Averie Daughtry.

The series resumes on Saturday at 3 p.m.
