Corbin, Persinger Power Softball to Doubleheader Split

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – UNCW's Allison Corbin and Sierra Persinger combined for four home runs and eight RBI as the Seahawks softball team split a doubleheader at Drexel on Saturday afternoon at the Drexel Softball Field.

The Seahawks improved to 27-15 and 14-4 in the Coastal Athletic Association with a 13-6 win over the Dragons (19-20, 8-10 CAA), who rallied to win the first game 8-4.

Corbin and Persinger hit a home run in each game, two of seven UNCW players to have multiple hits on Saturday, led by Madison Biddle's four hits.

Corbin, Persinger and Biddle spotted the Seahawks a 4-0 lead in the first game before Drexel plated eight runs, highlighted by an Annabelle Smink grand slam, to even the series with an 8-4 comeback win.

Dragons pitcher Courtney Kols (18-13) tossed a complete game while UNCW's Lynsie Herman (7-3) took the loss for the Seahawks.

Junior Ava Tsiouplis spotted UNCW Game 2 starter Camille Hamilton a two-run lead with a second-inning double before Persinger and Corbin both unloaded two-run shots in a six-run fourth inning.

Drexel made it a 9-6 game with another grand slam in the sixth of the bat of Ariana Castillo after Macie Berhmann hit a two-run round-tripper in the fourth.

The Seahawks erased the Castillo grand slam with four runs in the top of the seventh, including a three-run double by Biddle.

UNCW remains on the road next weekend at Charleston.
