Seahawks Drop Series Opener To Pride, 10-1

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Carlos Martinez struck out a career-high 15 as Hofstra earned a 10-1 win in the Coastal Athletic Association series opener against UNCW on Friday at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks dropped their fourth consecutive game, tumbling to 20-17 on the season and 9-7 in the league. Hofstra, meanwhile, snapped a three-game skid with the road win and improved to 12-19 and 7-9.

Martinez (2-1) eased through the Seahawks on his way to his career-high strikeout total. He allowed a run on seven hits, and he walked one over 6.2 innings.

CJ Griggs had four hits for the Pride, which scored seven of its 10 runs on the night with two outs. Tyler Cox was one of four players to have a multi-hit game.

Mason Hughes finished with two singles for the Seahawks.

Connor Marshburn (3-3) allowed seven runs, five earned, on 10 hits in 4.2 innings.

The series continues with a 4 p.m. start on Saturday.
