Tigers Halt Seahawks' Win Streak

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – A two-run home run by Towson's Leah Mears pushed the Tigers past the Seahawks 2-1 in Sunday's Coastal Athletic Association softball series finale at Boseman Field.

The Tigers (20-20, 5-10 CAA) evened their overall record and avoided a sweep by the Seahawks (25-14, 12-3 CAA), who saw their program-record-tying 10 game-win streak snapped.

Both teams totaled three hits of Towson's Mikaela Guy (4-4), who tossed her second complete game of the weekend, and UNCW's Taylor Barlow (3-2), who tossed five innings before Camille Hamilton completed the final two frames.

Sophomore Sierra Persinger singled home the game's first run in the bottom of the second after Madison Biddle singled up the middle and stole second and third to put herself in scoring position.

Barlow held the Tigers scoreless through 4.1 innings until Mears' home run carried over the right field wall after Addison Miller blooped a single into right field a batter earlier.

The Seahawks brought the potential game-winning run to the plate in seventh after Persinger reached on an error, but Guy induced a pop out and fanned a batter to snap Towson's five-game losing skid.

UNCW next travels to Drexel for a three-game set from Apr. 17-19.
