Herman One-Hits Towson in 8-0 Win

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore Lynsie Herman carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning in UNCW's 8-0 run-rule victory over Towson in Coastal Athletic Association softball action on Saturday afternoon at Boseman Field.

The Seahawks (25-13, 13-2 CAA) matched a program record with its 10th straight win and sit atop the CAA South Division standings with 10 conference contests remaining. The Tigers (19-20, 4-10 CAA) dropped their sixth straight game.

Herman (7-2) matched a season-high with six strikeouts and did not allow a hit until Towson's Mackenzie Gorzyca's two-out single to right field in the top of the sixth.

Nine different UNCW players accounted for the Seahawks' 11 hits, including two-hit efforts by Madison Biddle and Cassidy Relay, who combined to score five runs.

Junior Peyton Carver's two-run double capped a four-run first inning that included a Grace Hennessy RBI single. Freshman Ava Brookshire extended the lead with a second-inning single to score Relay.

Pinch-hitter Carson Fleming completed the six-inning victory with a two-run single with two outs and the bases loaded after junior Allison Corbin singled home Relay, who also scored on a stolen base and throwing error in the first, four batters earlier.

Tigers pitcher Amanda Medina (5-9) tossed three innings in the loss.

UNCW aims for its fourth CAA sweep of the season, and to reset the program's win streak total, when the series concludes on Sunday at 1 p.m.
