Persinger, Seahawks Walk-Off Tigers in Extras

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore Sierra Persinger walked UNCW off to support freshman Camille Hamilton's nine-inning complete game effort in the Seahawks' 2-1 extra innings win over Towson in Coastal Athletic Association softball action at Boseman Field on Friday.

The Seahawks (24-13, 11-2) won their ninth straight game, one shy of matching the program record set in 2017 and 2025. Towson (19-19, 4-9 CAA) dropped their fifth straight contest.

Hamilton (10-3) tossed a career-high nine innings on 103 pitches with five strikeouts.

Towson freshman Mikaela Guy (3-4) matched Hamilton's effort with seven strikeouts.

The game remained scoreless through eight innings as the rookie hurlers traded scoreless frames until Tigers senior Isabella Canesi drove in the first run of the game with two outs in the top of the eighth on a single through the right side.

Juniors Allison Corbin and Madison Biddle worked back-to-back walks to set up pinch hitter Peyton Carver's one-out RBI double to even the game and score Corbin as Biddle advance to third.

Persinger, on the next pitch, pushed a swinging bunt to Towson first baseman Mackenzie Gorczyca, who fired the ball home as Biddle raced for the plate. The senior shortstop eluded the on-time throw and attempted tag to score the winning run and send the Seahawks dugout into a frenzy.

The series resumes on Saturday at 4 p.m.
