Pitching Shines in Shutout Win

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Three UNCW softball pitchers combined for seven strikeouts to shut out UNC Greensboro 4-0 in the weekend tournament finale on Sunday afternoon at Boseman Field.

The Seahawks upped their record to 12-10 while the Spartans dipped to 15-12.

Junior Makayla Huddleston recorded four strikeouts across three innings before Lynsie Herman (3-0) worked two scoreless frames. Freshman Camille Hamilton did not allow a hit with two strikeouts in the final two innings.

UNCW's Sierra Persinger, Averie Daughtry, and Allison Corbin drove in runs for the Seahawks, including Persinger's RBI single in the bottom of the first.

Two runs crossed home in the fourth on a fielder's choice and Daughtry's infield single and Corbin plated a run on an error in the sixth.

UNCG's Rhyann Jones (2-3) tossed four innings in the loss.

Coastal Athletic Association play begins for UNCW next weekend at North Carolina A&T from Mar. 13-15.
