Baseball Preview: William & Mary

WILMINGTON, N.C. - The Seahawks and William & Mary, the two oldest members of the conference, meet this weekend at Brooks Field for a three-game series opening on Friday at 6 p.m.

UNCW (16-8, 5-1) had the week off after taking its second conference, and fifth overall, last weekend at the College of Charleston. Meanwhile, William & Mary (11-12, 3-3) topped rival Old Dominion, 6-3, to extend its winning streak to four. The streak began with a sweep of North Carolina A&T.

Connor Marshburn pitched the Seahawks to a series-opening win last weekend and was named the league's Pitcher of the Week. Marshburn went six shutout innings, allowing two singles, a walk, and striking out seven. He joined rotation mates Cooper Allen and Bromley Thornton as Seahawks to earn those honors this season.

Allen allowed a run over five innings in the series-clinching 8-1 win on Saturday. The junior lowered his league-leading earned run average to 1.29 with the outing.

Mason Hughes joins Allen as a statistical leader in the league, pacing the circuit with a .439 batting average.

The Tribe is led by sophomore Jamie Laskofski's .379 batting average, which is second in the league behind Hughes. Laskofski has scored 30 runs and stolen 16 bases this season. With 78 stolen bases, the Tribe is second in the league. In a single game against North Carolina A&T, W&M swiped a league-high 13 bases.
