Softball Falls at Duke

DURHAM, North Carolina – Duke's Gabriella Shadek hit two of the Blue Devils' four home runs to turn back the UNCW softball team 17-0 in five innings on Tuesday evening at Smith Family Stadium.

The Blue Devils improved to 19-10 while the Seahawks dipped to 15-11 with their four-game win streak snapped.

Duke, who led 10-0 after the third inning, hit three home runs in the bottom of the fourth, including a three-run shot by Shadek to post a seven-run inning.

Junior Cassidy Relay ran her reached base streak to 11 games with UNCW's lone hit, a bunt single in the top of the third, off Duke starter Ava Bradshaw.

Blue Devils reliever Mallory Wheeler improved to 4-3 with two scoreless innings while Seahawks starter Lynsie Herman took her first loss at 3-1.

UNCW returns home to host Coastal Athletic Association South Division rival Elon for a three-game set beginning Friday.
