Softball Completes Sweep of North Carolina A&T

GREENSBORO, North Carolina – The UNCW softball team totaled 10 hits to close out a Coastal Athletic Association sweep at North Carolina A&T with a 7-3 win on Sunday afternoon at the Lady Aggies Softball Complex.

The Seahawks (15-10, 3-0 CAA) scored two runs in the second, third and sixth innings to earn their seventh win in their last eight games. The Aggies fell to 13-18 and winless in league play through six games.

Nine different Seahawks collected a hit, including two off the bat of freshman Becca Merrick who, along with fellow freshman Ava Brookshire, collected doubles.

Junior Averie Daughtry drove in a pair of runs in the fifth and sixth innings as one of six UNCW players to drive in runs. Junior Cassidy Relay and Merrick each scored twice.

In the circle, starter Lynsie Herman worked three scoreless innings and freshman Camille Hamilton closed it out with 3.1 scoreless relief innings two days after throwing the first recorded perfect game in UNCW softball history.

N.C. A&T's Trinity Glover launched a three-run home run in the bottom of the fourth.

The Aggies' Devin Long dropped to 3-6 this season in 4.2 innings of work.

The Seahawks travel to Duke on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. contest on the ACC Network.
