Women's Tennis Battles Tribe In 5-2 Loss

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW dropped a 5-2 decision to Coastal Athletic Association rival William & Mary on Wednesday in women's tennis action at the UNCW Tennis Complex.

Tribe improved to 9-3 overall and remained perfect at 3-0 against CAA opponents. The Seahawks, who were playing their first match against a conference member, fell to 3-3.

Despite UNCW's Eda Arli and Elif Albayrak opening the match with a 6-2 win at number one doubles, the Tribe rallied to win on courts two and three to gain the point.

Arli (6-3, 6-2) and Albayrak (6-1, 6-1), however, earned wins on courts one and two, respectively, to give UNCW a 2-1 lead. With the win, Albayrak improved to 6-0 to open her season.

The Tribe drew even by taking fourth singles in straight sets.

The matches on courts three and five both went to three sets, with William & Mary winning both.

The Seahawks continue their seven-match homestand on Mar. 14 against Queens at noon.
