Seahawks Pound Charleston Southern, 18-2

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Led by Mason Hughes and Ryker Galaska, UNCW piled up 18 runs on 16 hits on Tuesday in an 18-2 pasting of Charleston Southern at Brooks Field.

UNCW ran its winning streak to four and improved to 11-6 on the season. The Bucs, meanwhile, fell to 12-4 after suffering a season-sweep by the Seahawks.

Hughes, the reigning CAA Player of the Week, drove in three runs on a pair of hits while Galaska came off the bench with a bases-loaded triple and later belted his first homer of the season. Six Seahawks had multi-hit games, and 10 players knocked in runs.

Also homering for the Seahawks was Cole Nelson, who belted his fourth round-tripper of the season in a four-run third inning.

The Seahawks plated a season-high nine runs in the fifth inning as 11 consecutive hitters reached base.

Mason Ruh pushed his record to 3-0 with a pair of shutout innings in relief.

Alex Marot finished with two hits on the evening for the Bucs.

Starter Hunter Porter (0-1) took the loss after surrendering four runs over two innings.

The Seahawks open conference play this Friday with a 6 p.m. start against visiting Elon.
