Ferrito Leads Seahawks on Senior Day

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – A 12-0 run to start the second quarter pushed William & Mary past the UNCW women's basketball team, 60-41, in Coastal Athletic Association action on Sunday afternoon at Trask Coliseum.

The Tribe (14-13, 7-9 CAA) snapped their three-game losing skid while the Seahawks (6-21, 2-14 CAA) dropped their fourth straight contest.

Senior Mary Ferrito poured in 11 of her team-high 18 points in the first half.

W&M's Cassidy Geddes reached double figures with 12 points and was joined by Monet Dance (12) and Marley Long's double-double of 10 points, 10 rebounds.

W&M carried a 16-12 advantage into the second period and upped its lead with 12 straight points, including 10 by Dance and Sallman, before Ferrito ended the drought with a pair of three-pointers.

UNCW closed the gap to 32-24 with six straight points in the final 47 seconds before halftime.

A 10-0 Seahawks run midway through the third quarter made it a five-point game, 39-34, with 4:37, but the Tribe scored 10 of the period's final 12 points to carry a 49-36 lead into the final 10 minutes.

UNCW honored seven players – Rori Cox, Ferrito, Kate Hollifield, McCall King, Corrie McLaughlin, Torin Rogers and Silver – as well as student managers Cole Ganim and Dylan Palmieri in a special pregame Senior Day ceremony.

The Seahawks close out their regular season with a two-game road trip at North Carolina A&T (Mar. 5) and at Elon (Mar. 7).
