Softball Drops 4-2 Decision vs. Kennesaw State

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW softball team dropped a 4-2 decision to visiting Kennesaw State on a chilly Saturday afternoon at Boseman Field.

The Seahawks fell to 1-2 on the season's second day while the Owls picked up their first win of the 2026 campaign.

KSU used a pair of infield singles by Macie Howes, who had three RBI,  and Ana Gore in the seventh inning to break a 2-2 tie after UNCW erased a 2-0 deficit with a two-run fourth inning.

Owls' reliever Leah Jannakos earned the win with 2.2 scoreless innings while the Seahawks' Makayla Huddleston (0-2) struck out six in 4.1 innings.

Freshman Becca Merrick collected a pair of hits while lead-off hitter Cassidy Relay worked a pair of walks.

UNCW closes out the weekend on Sunday against Appalachian State.
