Blue Devils Strike Late To Edge Seahawks

WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW led through three innings, but Duke plated six runs over the final six innings to upend the Seahawks, 6-3, on Tuesday at Brooks Field.

Duke improved to 8-2 with the road win, while the Seahawks slid back to .500 at 4-4.

With the game tied at 3-all in the seventh, Duke's Cider Canon broke the deadlock with a single through the right side to score two.

Canon finished with three hits and scored a run. RJ Hamilton added two hits for Duke.

Reliever Bennett LaPalm (1-0) picked up the win and Aiden O'Connell earned his second save.

Trevor Lucas and Jake Bechtel knocked in runs for UNCW in a three-run third.

Mason Murdock (0-1) took the loss in relief, allowing two runs, one earned, in a two-run Duke seventh.

Seahawk freshman starter Trey Williford tied his career-high with six strikeouts in 4.1 innings.

The Seahawks visit Charleston Southern on Wednesday for a 4 p.m. start
