Steffen Earns First Career Win Against Ranked Opponent

ORLANDO, Fla. – UNCW senior Lukas Steffen picked up his first career win against a nationally-ranked opponent on Sunday as UNCW fell, 6-1, at nationally-ranked UCF at the USTA Campus.

The Knights, who were ranked as high as eighth in the latest ITA rankings, raised their record to 11-2 overall and 8-0 at home. The Seahawks, who have now played a pair of top-10 programs early this season, dropped to 2-4.

Steffen, who ran his winning streak to four, opened his No. 1 singles match with #116th-ranked Yassine Dlimi with a 6-3 win in the first set. Dlimi, however answered with a 6-2 victory to tie the match. Steffen answered with a 6-3 win in the deciding set.

At No. 6 singles, Brady Hussey fell in three sets to Clement Lemire, falling 10-4 in a tie breaker in the third set.

The Seahawks head west next weekend, visiting Oregon (Mar. 1), #20 Cal Santa Barbara (Mar. 4) and Texas Tech (Mar. 6) in Santa Barbara, Calif.
