Allen Cruises As Seahawks Explode, 19-0

WILMINGTON, N.C. – Cooper Allen tossed six shutout innings and the UNCW offense exploded on Saturday in a 19-0 win over Fordham to even the weekend series at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks moved back to .500 on the season at 3-3 while the Rams dropped to 1-5.

UNCW plated four runs in the first inning and then pushed across five in each of the next three innings for a 19-0 lead through four innings. The game was halted due to the run rule.

Allen (2-0) earned the win, scattering three hits and striking out a career-high 10. Allen, a junior, has yet to allow a run over 11 innings to open the season.

Jake Bechtel tied a program record with four doubles while scoring four runs and knocking in five. Will Tyrrell also drove in a career-high five runs, finishing with a double and a triple. JP Pennella led the Seahawks at the top of the order, going 2-for-2 with two walks and three runs scored.

The Seahawks collected 12 hits, drew 12 walks and were hit three times.

Fordham starter Chase Hanawalt (0-2) was roughed up for five runs in 1.1 innings.
