Late Surge Lifts Stony Brook Past UNCW, 60-55

STONY BROOK, N.Y. – UNCW's Kylah Silver held game-high honors with 21 points, but Stony Brook held off the Seahawks for a 60-55 women's basketball win on Friday in Coastal Athletic Association play at the Stony Brook Arena.

The Seawolves (15-11, 10-3 CAA) outscored the Seahawks (6-19, 2-12 CAA), 21-16 in the fourth quarter to pick up the win.

UNCW outscored the Seawolves 18-11 in the third quarter to draw even entering the final quarter. SBU built a 51-43 lead with 5:21 left, but the Seahawks clawed to within 51-50 on a layup by Angelina Pelayo and 3:04 on the clock.

The Seawolves, however, scored the next four points to extend their lead to 55-50.

Torin Rogers had 11 points for the Seahawks and Silver just missed a double-double, finishing with nine rebounds.

Diaka Berete paced SBU with 17 points and Janay Brantley added 15.

UNCW next visits Hofstra on Feb. 22 for a 1 p.m. start.
